Yoga versus the Galaxy

There is a long list of beauty, fashion & tech items that will make it into my Christmas 2013 Wishlist (& you’ll get to see them soon, since there will be a relevant post at a later date). If however I had to chose one single item, right now, that would definitely have to be a tablet. My tech-y self has resisted the trend for far too long and now absolutely needs to give in… Problem is I cannot seem to decide whether I should follow my gut instinct and go with the Lenovo Yoga tablet 10 (which I recently came across online and immediately fell in love with) or play it safe (?) with a good old Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. VERSUS Reviews are mixed, with some singing Lenovo’s praises and others claiming you’re much better off steering clear of the company’s latest offering. Now, I’ve never been a huge fan of Samsung (despite the rave these last couple of years) and also have to admit that the Yoga tablet’s sleek and clever design …

Avon Haul …

I’m afraid I got carried away. Again… I am pretty sure the AVON lady said that being a representative was a lucrative way to fill one’s free time. Apparently, in my case, that did not really take. Oh, well. At least it is a great way to fill my beauty essentials’ (and non essentials’) quota. Here’s my latest little haul. Sunday Manicure (Vol.5)

Products used: Avon Nail Experts Advanced Mira- Cuticle Vanishing Complex & Avon Nail Experts Revitacool Base Coat – No Longer Available Maybelline Forever Strong “Winner Takes it All” £4.09 Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.50€ First Impressions: Had this for a few months and was reminded of it lately – what with the Christmas holidays approaching & the festive mood peaking. I am generally more of a Color Show fan, but this was the only Maybelline range including a golden nail polish at a time when I was looking to dress up as… Cleopatra (!), so I picked it up (& didn’t regret it). The color is easy to apply, dries quickly & has great lasting power (I’ve had it last up to 12 days). Also, the metallic shade is such that minor chips are very difficult to detect. You can easily apply a single coat, but I use two – for the result pictured here. One minus: this tends to form tiny air bubbles, so keep that in mind when applying and take the …

Ones to Watch: Urania Gazelli

In continuing with the theme of presenting inspiring, young  Greek creatives today’s post will be dedicated to the talented Urania Giourmetaki (aka Urania Gazelli). With studies in industrial design and a bachelor from Middlesex University of London, the 28 year old Urania started playing around with plexiglass in an effort to put a spin on the family business and ended up founding her own bag label in the spring of 2010. She has since managed to gain great numbers of dedicated fans – as well as the attention of the Italian Vogue team & Anna Wintour who, in choosing the most talented new designers, invited her to Milan back in September 2013. All pieces are lovingly hand- crafted by Urania herself (at present, as she says, her business is  “a one-woman-show”) at the family factory in Koropi, Greece and sold online via  “More is Love”. Here’s a bit of background information, by Ms. Giourmetaki herself – for the Greek speaking amongst you (unfortunately I couldn’t find a captioned version of the interview): For the rest, here’s …

‘The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher or The Murder at Road Hill House’ by Kate Summerscale ~ A Review

Let me start by saying that I had this on my TBR list for quite some time before I actually got around to it. I finally picked it up at a point when I felt like sinking my teeth into a good “who dunnit” – thinking that a real- life, locked-house, Victorian murder mystery would make for a riveting read. I guess I had higher expectations than I should have, mainly influenced by all the rave reviews on the inside cover (both front and back!!). Alas, I was bitterly disappointed! Mr. Whicher, the supposed main character, never managed to find his voice and the end result was way too over- researched and all over the place to actually be enjoyable. I do realize than one of the writer’s aims was to illustrate how the Road Hill case influenced budding detective work and gave rise to detective novels as such but I’m pretty sure this could have been achieved using much less detail, thus allowing the story (that was a gruesome child murder and the subsequent …
