Interiors > First Tadao Ando Residential Project in NYC

Osaka born and raised Tadao Ando is undoubtedly one of the best architects of our time and a man who, despite never getting an official degree in architecture, has gone on to win a multitude of medals, prizes and awards – amongst which the (equivalent of a Nobel) Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1995. Since 1973 he has completed an extensive list of  projects, mainly involving public structures (such as churches, museums & theaters) and mostly based in his native Japan (with few exceptions, starting from 1990 onwards). His work is characterized by a signature use of unadorned concrete and the incorporation of natural elements (such as water & light) in his designs. Stone, wood and glass also tend to play a major role and can be found in most of his projects. If you are not aware of any of his work and are interested in learning more, you might want to start by checking out one of his best known projects: The Church of Light (1989). Meanwhile, here’s a look at his first residential NYC project …

Joanna Ladowska’s Mixed Media Art

It’s no secret that art is a big love of mine. I’m at my happiest when I’ve just discovered a new and exciting artist – and only wish I could be as talented as some of the ones I’ve discovered along the way. One of my artist crushes (and envies) at the moment is Joanna Ladowska, a UK-based mixed media artist. I was first wooed by her talent a few years ago, when I accidentally bumped into one of her more ‘classic’ pieces: an absolutely stunning, pencil on canvas, depiction of Audrey Hepburn. I immediately started following her on Facebook, not yet realising how versatile an artist she was. In the months and years that followed, I discovered exactly how much more of her work amazed me… And it was all different things, like: Then, for the whole of last month, she did this thing were she posted one notepad sketch for everyday on her Facebook page and… boy did she blow me away. I actually think these sketches may be my favorites so far. …

Ones to Watch: ‘Meet the Cat’ Jewelry

Ioanna Koulouris was born and raised in Athens, as part of a very artistic family (her mother owned a clothing atelier, while her father was a self-taught handyman). She studied Statistics at the University of Piraeus and, upon graduating, worked in advertising until 2005 – when she, thankfully, decided to change career paths. She went back to her mother’s atelier, attended art seminars, experimented with different forms & materials and eventually designed her first collection and founded her own company: ‘Meet the Cat’. Using a range of both conventional & unconventional materials such as wood , rubber & cement (!) Ioanna creates original, alternative, statement jewelry pieces – which will add that certain je ne sais quoi to even the plainest of outfits. Just look at some of her earlier work: Her latest (SS2015) collection, AZTECAH, features “geometric cuts of gold, silver and pink gold-plated brass, embroidered with colorful threads” and is (as its name clearly implies) inspired by the art of the Aztecs. Here’s some of my favorite pieces, for your viewing pleasure: The …

Home Workspace Inspiration…

I have been contemplating setting up a small workspace in my house for sometime now. I feel like it would be nice to have a dedicated spot to catch up on paperwork – not to mention it would be great for overall productivity and all my blogging needs (no more wriggling on the bed, trying to get into some sort of cozy position in order to type a blog post). It was in that spirit that I started browsing the internet for inspiration, a few days ago – and boy did I find some gorgeous looking spaces & interesting ideas! All that remains is for me to find a cosy, available spot with great wi-fi signal (which might prove a tad hard to be honest), then start hunting for a small desk/ chair combo and fitting accessories… Here’s some of the spaces that inspired me the most, for your viewing pleasure: [via haileygolich.vsco.co] [via gravity-gravity] [via crystal-lize] [via gravity-gravity] [via minimal desks] [via stylizimoblog.com] [via emmalucywatson] [via vintageluxe] [via northernmoments] [via eclecticdose] [via lushlofts] [via …

Interiors > Scandinavian Appartment with Industrial Elements

Today features yet another great loft (to be?), situated in Murmansk, Russia. Designed by native architect Denis Krasikov this airy, high- ceiling-ed gem features bright white walls and “distressed” wooden floors coupled by modern touches, graphic splashes and pure industrial elements – with a stunning, totally eye- catching result. I love the purely functional kitchen, light- flooded living room and modern, beehive inspired bathroom. As for the bedroom? With its four- poster bed, huge all around windows and stunning statement lighting against the principally minimal backdrop – it is simply to die for! [via Design Father]
