Holiday Gift Guide: 30 under 30

Sometimes you don’t really want (or cannot afford – if we are to be honest) to buy an ultra expensive Christmas gift, but still fancy getting something nice & thoughtful and less of a “stocking stuffer” for those you care about.

Enter the “30 under 30 Holiday Gift Guide”. It features a bit of everything (beauty, home/decor, tech, everyday staples) and at less than 30 euro per piece, all items would fit the bill nicely. Just have a look below and see if anything strikes your fancy…

Holiday Gift guide: 30 Under 30

1. Nudestix Matte Nude Lip Cheek Set: Brilliant little gift set for any makeup buff who enjoys a nude lip.

2. OUAI Morning After Kit: The whole beauty world seems to be going crazy for OUAI. I’d love getting this, if just to see what all the fuss is about – and so would, probably, most of your girlfriends.

3. Customizable Geometric White Marble & Rose Gold Notebook: These look so cute I actually ordered a couple for myself, while researching this post… Their price is quite low so you can also easily combine them with other customized items (mugs, mouse pads, business cards, clipboards etc.) to make a little gift “package”.

4. Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer: Rihanna has taken the word by storm with her makeup line. This lip luminizer looks smashing and would perfectly compliment a smokey eye.

5. Moët et Chandon Imperial Rose NV Christmas Cracker Edition – 20cl: Bit of luxury in a small package. Plus can you think of anything better to usher in the NY than a glass of high quality bubbly?

6. Benefit Majorette Booster Blush: I have tried this and absolutely LOVED it so I couldn’t not mention it here. If you know someone who isn’t a big fan of heavy blush but still wants that healthy looking glow, this one is definitely the thing to get her.

7. Pixi Best of Bright Kit: Great little gift set from Pixi. ‘Nough said.

8. Spasilk 100% Pure Silk Facial Beauty Pillowcase: Who wouldn’t enjoy resting their heads on pure silk at night? Not to mention saving their skin from fine lines, in the process?

9. TONYMOLY ‘I’m Real’ Sheet Masks: A great little collection of sheet masks for Korean beauty fans.

10. Natrogix Bliss 100% Pure Essential Oil Set: Pure essentials oils can be used for many things not the least of which would be making your home smell lovely. These could be used (or even bought) in conjunction with item no. 11 below.

11. KINGA Essential Oil Diffuser & Air Purifier/Humidifier: One of these things all people would appreciate but very few actually go out and buy for themselves. I would personally like it as a gift – and I’m pretty sure your loved ones will, as well.

12. Zoella Snowella All Four You Mini Mists: Extra cute packaging. Extra cute names. And, if the reviews are anything to go by, quite interesting scents. Fans of Zoella will probably give you bonus points for thoughtfulness.

13. Bedside Smartphone Vase: Would look lovely on any bedside table. Just make sure the person you get this for does not own a cat.

14. Pantone Classic Porcelain Cup: Classic Pantone. The red version is, unfortunately, sold out on Amazon UK, but there’s a host of other lovely colors to choose from.

15. Emma Hardie Moringa Traveller Set: A beauty classic in a travel (and budget) friendly set. Your girlfriends are sure to enjoy it.

16. this works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray: For the insomniacs in your life…

17. MAC Snow Ball Pigment and Glitter Kit: We probably all agree re: the quality of MAC pigments. The fact that three of them come in such a GORGEOUS, sequined makeup bag just adds to the covet factor. Be warned, though – this is mostly sold out online, so grab one quickly if you fancy it.

18. Anker Astro E1 6700mAh Ultra-Compact Portable Charger: Apparently the quickest way to charge your phone. Comes in other colors too, in case you’re not a big fan of “Apple” white.

19. Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant Original Gift Set: Just a fantastic value set from Elizabeth Arden. Also mostly sold out online – which is no wonder. Act quickly.

20. Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint: A red that seems to compliment all skin tones. An absolute neccesity for the holiday season (and beyond).

21. Neom Tranquillity Scented Travel Candle: With notes of lavender and jasmine this would be a great way to relax while having a nice hot bath, after a long gruelling day at the office (and is thus certain to be appreciated).

22. Liz Earle Cleanse Polish Starter Kit: A lovely way to offer someone the choice to sample one of the most awarded cleansers in the UK.

23. NYX Professional Makeup Jet Set Travel Kit – Pro Prep, Prime & Finish: A fantastic little makeup set from NYX. Would be perfect for frequent travelers (exactly as the name suggests) and fans of the brand alike.

24. Kiehl’s Butterstick Lip Treatment Limited Edition: Kiehl’s is one of my favorite brands and makes some of the best lip balms I have tried to this day. This, festively packaged, one would make a great little gift for anyone – in view of the colder weather months approaching.

25. Bath Truffle Melts: Clementine Cupcake, Espresso, Lemon Cake, Oatmeal Milk & Honey… Don’t eat them, just gift them! Bath lovers are bound to love them.

26. BAGSMART Double-layer Travel Cable Organizer: Most of us pack a gazillion electronic bits and gadgets when travelling  (including chargers, cables, camera batteries, SD cards, tablets etc.) This chic, slimline travel organizer from Bagsmart would no doubt come in handy.

27. 2 in 1 Body Lotion Candle: I am intrigued beyond words by this item – which is basically why I need to include it here. I am not quite sure how it would work but it seems to be getting great reviews by people who have used it. If you happen to try it, do drop me a line and let me know what the experience was like, yeah?

28. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick Set: Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks. I mean…come on…Seriously… Find me one woman who would not like getting this set as a present.

29. Box of Chocolate Soaps: Another one which seems to be selling out quickly. Chocolate, Fudge Brownie and Raspberry Drizzle scented. Would make a great gift for a friend, relative or (why not?) yourself.

30. Zoella Easy Doze it Cushion: Another, very cleverly branded, item from the Zoella home range. Cute as a button with its feminine colors & gold foil lettering, it will always make its recipient smile. And what’s better than that, when it comes to a gift?

Holiday Gift Guide: For Him

Having tackled the women in our lives, it’s now time to focus on the men. Our favorite gender is notoriously difficult to buy for and one can (almost) never be 100% certain of how the gift that he/she spent ages choosing will be received.

I personally have been blessed with a father and partner that are literally the gentlest and most accommodating people on earth, when it comes to receiving gifts. They never take things for granted and always appreciate the time and effort that they know I have put into getting them whatever it is that I have eventually chosen. That said I will still stress over said choice for weeks, before time comes for them to open their packages (and me to finally see the look on their faces).

With most men, you cannot go wrong with technology and assorted gadgets. I will however only include a couple such items here, since there’s a forthcoming (unisex) tech-ie gift guide which will explore that niche further. For today I will focus on some of the other areas that usually provide interesting gift ideas for our favorite guys. So here goes…

Holiday Gift Ideas For Him

1. Bourbon Infused Coffee: Most men are foodies. Most men love coffee. And you will be hard pressed to find a man that doesn’t like whiskey. This is just the sort of gift to appeal to all of the categories mentioned above.

2. Multi- Tool Box of Wonders: Men usually enjoy DIY and fixing things around the house. They also like to be prepared for any eventuallity, at any given point in time and they are usually also interested in design (especially when it is functional). This set of stainless steel, ultra-thin, and versatile tools will be a gift most will be happy to unpack.

3. Retrographic: History’s Most Exciting Images Transformed into Living Color: If you have a man in your life who likes photography, this collection of remastered photographs from major photographers and Pulitzer Prize winners of the field is sure to be well received.

4. BottleLoft: Men stock a few bottles of beer in their fridge, at any given time. This clever gadget will allow them to do exactly that, while saving precious space on their selves.

5. Leather Hip Flask 8oz: If your father, partner or friend is active and likes hiking or camping, this might come in handy – plus it looks classy as hell.

6. Daneson Bourbon & Scotch Toothpicks: See No. 1 (a.k.a. you will be hard pressed to find a man that doesn’t like whiskey).

7. Beams Plus Cashmere Scarf: Most men are not big on fashion. They do, however, enjoy having a few top quality basic pieces in their wardrobe. You can thus never go wrong with a classic cashmere scarf.

8. Victorinox Swiss Card: See No. 2. Carrying a Swiss Army knife around may not always be the most practical sollution. This would make a great, slimline alternative.

9. Universe: Exploring the Astronomical World: I’ ve recently come to realise that a lot of men are science buffs. Amongst other pursuits they enjoy astronomy, love pinpointing and naming all the different constellations and seem to be intrigued by most things having to do with space and the universe in general. This book will be the perfect gift, if you happen to have one of them in your life.

10. Mulberry 8 Card Wallet: See No. 7. Add to that the fact that men will never go buy themselves a wallet – not unless the one they’re making do with is, finally, in tatters. This streamlined classic is definitely pricey but will be most appreciated.

11. UCO Titan Stormproof Match Kit : See No. 5. These make a great, practical gift and will be surely appreciated if the man you are buying them for is a climber, hiker or camper.

12. Corkcicle Whiskey Wedge: Here we go again. Most men love whiskey, most men love design. What more is there to be said?

13. Dents Men’s Cashmere Lined Hairsheep Leather Gloves: You can’t go wrong with a pair of high quality leather gloves for winter. Plus, you can always pair them with that classic cashmere scarf mentioned above…

14. Waterproof Pack-able Backpack: Yet another one for the active guy in your life. Hell, I’d love this for my hiking trips too.

15. Le Labo Eau De Parfum Discovery Set : A little treat for the guy who’s been stuck wearing the same perfume for ages (yup, men are creatures of habbit). Now, for those of you who don’t know, Le Labo perfume is quite expensive – so this would be a great way for him to sample the different scents before committing to something he realy likes.

16. Xbox Wireless Controller Patrol Tech Special Edition: Men and videogames. Unless you are lucky (like me) your man spends a decent number of hours/ week in front of his game console. No need to analyse this further then…

17. Origin Men’s Grooming Treats Set : This set contains just the basics: Shave Cream, Exfoliator, Moisturizer and Body Wash (a.k.a. everything the average male will need for his personal grooming) in a lovely  gift bag. It’s sure to come in handy, even if the man you’re buying for is not hugely into beauty related items.

18. Byredo Tree House Candle: And finally, don’t fear the candles. Most men would never buy one, but they will probably light (and enjoy) it once it’s been gifted to them. Take the leap this year. They’ll thank you, once their humble abode starts smelling divine.

Holiday Gift Guide: For Her

Finally… It’s that wonderful time of the year again… My favorite holiday season is quickly rolling in and, even though it is certainly the least of the things that make it so special, gift giving (and buying) is a big part of it.

Now, if you are anything like me you take your gift choices very seriously, to the point of obsessing over all the different possibilities months in advance and sometimes still not having come to a conclusion – when you suddenly realize that the 24th is just around the corner!!!

If that’s the case (and you are still wondering what to get your most treasured ones) you might wanna keep an eye out for my Holiday Gift Guide Series this week. The plan is to tackle a few different themed gift guides – publishing a couple each day and concluding the series at the latest by Sunday the 17th (thus, hopefully, still giving you enough time to go out and purchase any items that may have taken your fancy). There is no specific reasoning behind the choice of gifts mentioned – just a mishmash of things I’d love getting myself or offering as gifts to those I love…

With that said, I’ll jump straight to it and start by giving you a few ideas as to what you could get the women in your life. As a woman I’d be happy to receive any of the items mentioned below – and I’m pretty sure that most mothers, girlfriends and/or spouses would feel the same way, for at least some of the choices. If you don’t find something that is quite a fit for that special someone (and their particular interests), don’t fret. There will be separate (but complimentary) guides for the beauty obsessed, fashion lovers, bookworms etc. in your lives.

1. Automatic Handbag Illuminator: This is totally genius. It might be small but I’d consider it a priceless addition to my arsenal against bag fumbling – and would therefore love the person who gifted it to me, forever.

2. Lomo ‘Instant Yangon Camera Set: If you’ve got female friends who enjoy photography I can almost guarantee they will adore this. I know I did. I mean… it’s instant, it’s gold and all the lenses you might need are included in the (lovely) gift package. What more could a girl ask for?

3. Chanel Travel Makeup Pallette: I hardly think there are any women out there who do not love Chanel. This little compact would, subsequently, go down especially well with mostly everyone – and even more so with the chic & discerning frequent traveler in your life.

4. Erin Condren Metallic Painted Petals Life Planner: We all have a planner girl in our group of friends. This gorgeous Erin Condren planner, in grey and rose gold, would be absolutely ideal for her. Careful though, you might start coveting one for yourself…

5. Kat Von D Everlasting Mini Liquid Lip Set: I’ve tried these and they’re absolutely brilliant. Sure they are a bit drying (as most liquid matte lipsticks tend to be) but they are most certainly everlasting in the truest sense of the word. They’re also quite pricey, so this miniature set would be an ideal way to treat the beauty buff in your life.

6. Godiva 24 Piece Signature Truffle Gift Box: Belgian chocolate in general, is admittedly some of the best in the world. Godiva in particular is my absolute favourite. I could never begrudge anyone bringing me this – even if it would be long gone, way before the New Year. With flavors like Aztec Spice, Salted Caramel, Double Chocolate Raspberry, Hazelnut Crunch, Oranges & Creamsicle, Crème Brulee & Strawberry Crème Tarte included in the mix the foodies in your midst are guaranteed to love it as well.

7. Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Scented Home Candle: I really enjoy winter-y smelling candles, especially around the holidays. There’s just something so special & festive about lighting scented candles around the home at Christmas, don’t you think? Pomegranate Noir is a great scent and a bit of a staple for Jo Malone – and these are some of the highest quality candles around. Plus, there’s a variety of different scents so you are sure to find the perfect fit for that special someone who loves cuddling up on the sofa on winter nights.

8. Voluspa Vermeil Mini Tin Candle Set: I have never tried these myself, but they seem to come highly recommended. Also, just look at them! You’ve gotta love those mini tins. I personally think they’d look lovely on any vanity (long after they’ve outlived their initial purpose).

9. Nescafe Dolce Gusto Mini Me Automatic Coffee Machine: This would come in handy, for anyone who is forced to get an early start to their day (and have limited desk space at the office). It will, most probably, save them a trip to the communal kitchen (usually accompanied by a lot of unwanted, early morning chatter) and enable them to prepare & have that first essential cuppa in the privacy of their own office, instead.

10. Dune London Livie Leopard Silk Scarf: It’s silk, it’s chic, it’s animal print and it’s burgundy. Need I say more?

11. Henry Bendel Chic & Chilly Eye Mask: This is one of those things all women would use, but none usually get for themselves. The added bonus of the chill feature makes this quite interesting – it would feel amazing after a hard day’s squinting at the office computer, a long tiresome flight or on the morning after some serious partying (which there’s bound to be a lot of during the holiday season).

12. Eberjey Gisele Basics PJ Set: Most men agree there’s something really sexy about a woman, draping herself in her boyfriend’s shirt in the morning. This PJ set from Eberjey combines that vibe, with the comfort all women look for in homewear. I love the black pair, with the light pink detailing – but there’s more color combos to choose from, if that’s not your cup of tea.

13. Dune London Dimogen Double Compartment Shoulder Bag: Not sure what to say here, except… I LOVE THIS BAG! The texture of the leather, the muted gold detailing, the perfectly measured (not too long, not too short) handles… It’s perfect. I am seriously thinking of getting one for myself. It’s  spacious and it’s classic and it will certainly prove to be one of those pieces that comes in handy in almost all occasions…

14. S’well Water Bottle: These, stainless steel vacuum insulated, water bottles keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and hot drinks hot for 12 (!!). Plus, they are designed by the fastest growing woman-owned company in the US, give back to charity (the company works with UNICEF, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and (RED) amongst others) and look stunning (unfortunately my favourite is currently out of stock, or I would have gotten one for myself).

15. Prosecco Made Me Do It Cocktail Recipe Book: Prosecco. Cocktails. I guess this one is pretty self-explanatory…

16. Pearl Compact Mirror (& USB Charger): Combining two major bag essentials, this is a genius little accessory for any woman. You can refresh your makeup and boost your phone charge – all in one neat package. What’s not to like?

17. Hair Tie Bracelet: I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one constantly loosing my hair tie(s). This is clever design with a purpose and would make a great last-minute gift or stocking filler.

18. Stained Glass Birth Month Mini Dish: Plain, simple and functional. The colors are lovely and it would look great as a jewellery holder on any vanity. I’m thinking it would make a cute, add-on, gift for the mothers out there.

19. FRESH Sugar Lip Lovelies Gift Set:  FRESH is world-famous for its lip products and this festive cracker jack would make for a great gift – especially with the cold weather finally kicking in as of late.

20. Clinique Sweet Pot: Another subtle-pop-of-colour product from Clinique. I’m personally not a big fan of the natural lip, but these look so cute they are actually tempting. Plus, the sugar scrub addition makes them way more useful during the winter months. Top it all up with the Clinique quality guarantee, and these are sure to be a welcome gift – especially for fans of a more basic, makeup routine.

“… and you thought your mum was nuts …”

Ok… So, this is definitely not the kind of thing I usually post – but it made me laugh so hard this cold, Wednesday (!) morning @ the office, that I simply had to share…

If you are over a certain age and still not engaged or (better yet) married, you probably know all about how stressed and disillusioned parents mums can get over your not settling down and starting a family like a proper young lady. But I suppose you’ve never received a text quite like this:

or these, for that matter:

Well, Kate Friedman- Siegel has and, to her credit, now makes a living out of it…  After the Instagram account she created, to share her mum’s (100+ per day) texts, went viral Kate quit her job at Condé Nast and set up Crazy Jewish Mom. She and her mother, Kim Friedman, are now an internet sensation – with thousands of fans, an online “advice column”, a podcast and most recently a New York Times bestseller. And, to be honest, they’re absolutely hilarious…

To be fair to Kim (an amazing, strong and very funny woman), there’s also a multitude of non- ovary related texts that are lough-out-loud funny. Here’s just some, of the many, examples:

Kudos to Kate for making the best out of what could have just been an overbearing situation – and thanks to Bored Panda for introducing me to this crazy pair.
