Design Obsession of the Day

This is the latest thing that caught my eye, while browsing design magazines and decoration sites online. The very avant- garde and chic ‘Loop’ coffee table was inspired by “the spiral shape of roller coaster loops” and brought to life by Rio de Janeiro based Baita Design – using DuPont‘s Corian ® (see more designs using this particular material, here). I cannot seem to find a price tag for this online, but will keep looking and update this post should I figure it out. Baita (which seems to have a number of interesting designs available) is apparently in the middle of a website re-design – but, if you are so inclined, you can still follow them via Facebook and/or Twitter.

Design Obsession of the Day

The Internet is a mad, mad, mad world! Will you just look at what I found online? London based brand Takkoda (its name derived from the Sioux word meaning “friend to all”) is the one behind the – award winning –  brand Pets Rock® which features a range of different products, printed with images of everyday pets which were photographed in their own homes to capture their natural expressions and then “dressed up” to look like stars (with the process of “extracting the celebrity ego from within the pet”, taking approximately “40 hours of digital work”)! Products include… well mostly anything you can imagine, from postcards to chopping boards & wall hangers to flip flops but the nicest ones are these cute faux suede, machine washable cushions. Some of them had me laughing out loud – and I think they’d add a pop of color & fun to any space. Just imagine ‘Andy Warhol’ on your sofa or home office chair… If nothing else, it would definitely make you smile! It also seems like there’s some …

Design Obsession of the Day

Despite the fact that I now have the choice of reading my e-books on my smartphone or my tablet (or even listening to them on my hi-fi, via Bluetooth) my little Kindle will always have a place in my heart. I recently bought an original Amazon Kindle case for it, which by the way is very nice and handy, but was still super- excited to discover these online. Klevercase currently offers a few different versions (‘Great Gatsby’, ‘Secret Garden’, ‘Great Expectations’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ etc.) for a range of devices (Amazon Kindle, Kobo, iPad Mini, Nexus7 & Samsung Galaxy Tab 3), but I immediately fell in love with the above gorgeous version of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. With brilliant comments & 5 stars received from most of the reviewers, it sounds like a sturdy and girly chic alternative to my current utilitarian choice – and at £24.90 it’s not unreasonably priced, either. Plus, it’s absolutely perfect for Spring (and you can even buy a matching Journal or Diary)! Do drop by the website and have …

Design Obsession of the Day…

Being a fan of clever design, but also a bit of a self-proclaimed activist, I tend to love ideas that combine both in one clever, “green” package. So, having recently bumped into this, I just knew I had to share… Bedol (What’s Next) is an American company that “brings creative ideas for your home or office in the form of unique and innovatively designed products“. With 20 years of experience & clients such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and the Museum of Modern Art, there’s seems to be some serious oomph behind the company name – which makes me think their latest gadget might just work… The Bedol Water Clock comes in a variety of shapes (pictured above is the ‘Squirt’ model, which is meant to resemble a splash of water), sizes & colors and claims to keep perfect time – with no need for batteries or electricity. According to the company, its technology “converts the ions in the water to clean energy power”, with one fill of water allowing the clock to work …

Design Obsession of the Day…

It’s no big secret that I’m a big fan of anything gadget-y & tech-y, so there was absolutely no way I’d be able to resist what I bumped into the other day. Ladies & Gents, I present to you.. (drumroll please) .. the Ziiiro Mercury Watch: According to the company “Ziiiro Mercury displays time in a simple and unique way. The tip of the inner swirl represents the current hour, while the outer swirl displays the minutes, with a continuous gradient movement showing the passing through time.” Ain’t that totally sci- fi? Hehe… This fabulous piece of design comes in 5 colors (black-purple, black-magenta, black-ocean, silver-magenta and silver-ocean combos) and retails at 149€, with free international standard delivery. For more information (and the full array of products) you can visit the Ziiiro website. Ps. If you fancy a taste of what owning one of these would be like (and are an Apple fan), be sure to try the ZeroWatch App (available for iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch). {Image © Ziiiro}
