Sunday Manicure (Vol.16)

Products used: Erre Due Diamond Base Coat 6.49€ Korres Nail Colour no. 23 ‘Cyclamen’ 8€ Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.49€ First Impressions: In keeping with the lighter & Spring-ier shade focus, I went for Korres’ no.23 – a cyclamen pink/ fuschia creme- for this week’s mani. The shade is slightly darker than what it looks like in the photo (I really should invest in some sort of studio lighting contraption) but, other than that, I’ve got no grievances today… The color payoff was quite good (got two coats on in the photo), the consistency was easy to work with (albeit a bit thick), the drying time was satisfactory and the finish as glossy as ever (coupled by my top coat, it literally made photographing quite a chore). As I said last time, @ less than 7 or 8€ a pop (depending on where you buy, apparently) I think Korres’ polishes are great value for money (& equal, or better, quality than some of the higher-end ones).

Sunday Manicure (Vol.15)

Products used: Erre Due Diamond Base Coat 6.49€ Korres Nail Colour no. 76 ‘Lavender’ 6.40€ Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.49€ First Impressions: Lately I’ve been feeling like I’ve had enough of dark, winter-y colors so (with the weather gods smiling down on us these past few days) I thought I’d swatch something lighter & reminiscent of Spring.  Now, I’m not one to look good in pale colors but I still like them, which is why I picked up Korres’ no.76 – a lavender creme with a hint of blue in it, which somehow helps me pull it off. As always, the brand was a pleasure to work with – ‘Lavender’ had amazing color payoff (easily a one-coater, even though I used two here), great consistency (that made for easy/ flawless application), a short drying time (no dry-fast top coat involved) and a gorgeous glossy finish. At less than 7€ this is great value for money (& equal, or better, than some of the higher end brands). Have you tried any of the Korres’ polishes? …

Sunday Manicure (Vol.14)

Products used: Erre Due Diamond Base Coat 6.49€ Essie (Winter 2013) no. 851 ‘Shearling Darling’ 12.50€ Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.49€ First Impressions: Tomorrow, this girl’s going hunting for the latest Essie (Resort ’14) shades. Today, however, Sunday Manicure presents ‘Shearling Darling’ – the 4th out of the six-piece Winter ’13 collection to grace my talons. Labeled as a “rich, plush, ebony red”, this looks gorgeous in the bottle but upon (a typical two-coat) application transforms into a run-of-the-mill dark burgundy – which we’ve all seen (& worn) a thousand times. Other than the color being a bit of a ‘disappointment’, this is pretty good – as usual. Good consistency, average to short drying time and minimal (but there) patching – mainly at the very base of the nail. Probably not a must- have but still a good classic – for those of you who might be lacking in the area. Have any of you tried ‘Shearling Darling’? What did you think?

Sunday Manicure (Vol.13)

Products used: Erre Due Diamond Base Coat 6.49€ Essie Winter 2013 Collection no. 852 ‘Sable Collar 12.50€ Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.49€ First Impressions: Yesterday morning I went looking for Essie Resort 2014 (as promised). Turns out, the new shades won’t be available before Feb. 10th. I was faced with a “be-flexible-or-go-home-disillusioned” moment and (since two of the Winter 2013 colors, which I hadn’t been able to previously find, were now in)… I chose wisely. As a result, Sunday Manicure is now proud to present: Sable Collar. Essie labeled this a “luxurious, pearlescent cocoa plum” which saves me the trouble of trying to describe it myself. All I’m gonna say is: this is an absolutely wonderful color & (if you haven’t snatched it up, yet) I recommend you buy it. As far as I am concerned, it’s destined to be a Top5 shade for the rest of the winter! On to more practical matters, this is very “what-you-see-is-what-you-get” in terms of color & could theoretically be opaque in as little as one coat (I …

Fancy a Resort Fling?

I know I do! Essie’s 2014 Resort Collection is out and with a total of four gorgeous shades -there’s something there to intrigue everyone: The collection includes 3 pastels and one dark shade: – Cocktails & Coconuts (described as a ‘subtle, shimmering warm sand’) – Find me an Oasis (described as a ‘refreshing ice blue’) – Resort Fling (described as an ‘alluring coral peach’) – Under the twilight (described as a ‘provacative smokey plum’)I am personally beyond obsessed with the last two which, unless I somehow manage to snatch the 4 piece Resort Mini Cube online, I am going to try and get in-store tomorrow. All purchases will, of course, be featured on ‘Sunday Manicure’ ASAP,  so stay tuned…
