Ones’ to Watch: Olivia Burton

If you happen to know me, you are probably aware that one of my favorite accessories (after years of going without one and relying on my mobile phone instead) is my trusted  Cluse watch. I am absolutely in love with its minimal design and ‘barely there’ sensation and am seldomly caught without it. That said, I have lately been itching to buy another, something with a slightly more ‘feminine’ vibe to it – possibly in rose gold, with some sort of nude or pastel strap. The obvious choice would be to stick with Cluse and maybe get a couple of the, exchangeable, straps while at it – right? Wrong… Enter Olivia Burton. Founded in London, by two best friends, back in 2011, the label makes some of the most gorgeously feminine watches I have come across. Case in point: its Abstract Florals collection which had me reeling. I mean, how beautiful is this? If the 38mm dial (above) came with a leather strap (which it doesn’t, unfortunately) I would have gone ahead and bought it …

Ones to Watch: ‘Meet the Cat’ Jewelry

Ioanna Koulouris was born and raised in Athens, as part of a very artistic family (her mother owned a clothing atelier, while her father was a self-taught handyman). She studied Statistics at the University of Piraeus and, upon graduating, worked in advertising until 2005 – when she, thankfully, decided to change career paths. She went back to her mother’s atelier, attended art seminars, experimented with different forms & materials and eventually designed her first collection and founded her own company: ‘Meet the Cat’. Using a range of both conventional & unconventional materials such as wood , rubber & cement (!) Ioanna creates original, alternative, statement jewelry pieces – which will add that certain je ne sais quoi to even the plainest of outfits. Just look at some of her earlier work: Her latest (SS2015) collection, AZTECAH, features “geometric cuts of gold, silver and pink gold-plated brass, embroidered with colorful threads” and is (as its name clearly implies) inspired by the art of the Aztecs. Here’s some of my favorite pieces, for your viewing pleasure: The …

Coco Crush: Chanel Fine Jewelry @ Net-a-Porter

Introducing Coco Crush: A limited edition, Chanel fine jewelry capsule collection available @ Net-a-Porter’s exclusive pop-up store for the next three weeks (from April 14th to May 6th). The six-piece collection comprises five rings and a cuff in 18-carat white and yellow gold – all featuring Chanel’s signature quilted motif (apparently known as the matelassé). Should you feel like checking it out (and, who are we kidding – you will, won’t you?) be warned: prices are absolutely astronomical. That said, one can still drool over these from the comfort (& privacy) of one’s own living room – non? {Images: Chanel and Observer, online}

Fashion Obsession of the Day

If you follow this blog regularly, you may have noticed my slight obsession with statement necklaces. This last year has made me quite the happy camper, with a vast array of amazing designs available for all budgets – and my latest find is the Topshop Hexagon Collar pictured above. I find it extremely chic, yet somehow edgy (a.k.a. exactly up my alley) and will be putting in an order for it as soon as I finish typing this ASAP. What do you think? Love it or hate it?

Designer Focus: Ileana Makri

Jeweller Ileana Makri was born in Greece and, after initially obtaining a degree in Business Administration, went on to follow her passion and studied jewellery design at the G.I.A. (Gemological Institute of America, in Santa Monica). Back in 1987 Ileana opened her first Athens store, where she eventually showcased her signature jewellery line (in 1996). Her designs were an overnight success and the collection was instantly picked up by Barneys New York. Fast forward 18 years to the present: Ileana’s designs are being sold at high-end retailers worldwide and worn by an ever growing list of celebrity clients (including Uma Thurman, Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum, Lenny Kravitz, Faith Hill, Rita Wilson, Ashley Olsen, Courtney Cox, Hellen Mirren, Jessica Alba and Debra Messing). She is also known for her collaborations with talented London-based designer, Mario Schwab & fashion label ‘The Row’ (of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen). Unfortunately (but, probably, luckily for me) most of her designs are too expensive to even begin to consider owning. That said, they are still sparkly works of art & amazingly …
