Sunday Manicure (Vol.19)

Products used: Erre Due Diamond Base Coat 6.49€ China Glaze 625 ‘For Audrey’ 7.80€ Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.49€ Back to lighter colors with China Glaze’s ‘For Audrey’, a lovely turquoise-aqua & the closest match I’ve found to Tiffany’s blue – which was what I was aiming for, when buying this. Unfortunately a mix-up in my BeautyBay order meant I got it a month late but, in the end, it was worth it. Having never tried China Glaze before, I admit to being quite impressed. Consistency was next to perfect, application was super easy, color payoff was amazing, drying (of 2 coats) amounted to just a couple of minutes & the end result is… well, gorgeous! Having said that, you should probably know I am partial to this color (& anything even remotely reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn), fact which might impair my judgement. Still, I am pretty sure you’ll love this if you try it. Now off to peruse (& probably buy) more, happiness-inducing, China Glaze colors online. Advertisements

Sunday Manicure (Vol.8)

Products used: Erre Due Diamond Base Coat 6.49€ Dior Golden Winter Diorific Vernis in 751- Marilyn 26.22€ Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.49€ First Impressions: Back to a classic holiday red for Christmas this week, with Dior’s re-issued Marilyn. Now, while I have to admit to loving the color (a true red with an almost invisible shimmer), I also have to say I’m not really crazy about the polish itself. First off, the brush felt a bit awkward. I’m used to sweeping one side of it then applying color on the nail with what product’s left on the other. This didn’t work here, since practically no product was left on the brush if you did it.  So, “dip and apply” seemed like the way to go. The polish consistency was also a bit off and getting a uniform color result proved quite tricky. There was no streaking but the color seemed to pool in places, creating what looked like “bold” patches in others. I actually had to re-do one nail ’cause of that, so not …

Sunday Manicure (Vol.7)

Products used: Erre Due Diamond Base Coat 6.49€ Essie Belugaria Collection Polish in Luts of Lux 12.00€ First Impressions: A little twist on the classic holiday manicure colors this week, with a blue lapis lazuli shimmer from Essie’s Belugaria Collection. “Lots of Lux” is the only color that did it for me in this collection. Everything else looked… well, either way too much (like “Belugaria”) or just not right (like “Peak of Chic” which actually scared me a little – sorry Essie!).  My photo does not do the color or lovely shimmer of this much justice. The actual shade is a bit lighter than it appears here (but not as light as on the Essie website) and has got a great deal of cutesy sparkle to it.  The polish has a great consistency and is very easy to apply – despite its particular nature (a bit like O.P.I. Liquid Sand). Applied 2 coats, over a base, with no topcoat as per Essie’s recommendation. Drying time was minimal and the end result is lovely – albeit …

Sunday Manicure (Vol.6)

Products used: Avon Nail Experts Advanced Mira- Cuticle Vanishing Complex & Avon Nail Experts Revitacool Base Coat – No Longer Available Avon Speed Dry+ 30 polish in Pronto Purple 4.90€ Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.50€ First Impressions: Taking a little break from holiday colors, with a bit of a summery purple in the middle of winter. I am a big fan of the Avon Speed Dry+ 30 range, mainly cause of its fab colors and the fact that it delivers on what it promises: dry nails in 30”. That said, I found this particular color a tad hard to apply -got a few “bold spots” on my first coat but, thankfully, those almost disappeared after the second one (so this is a definite two-coater). The Erre Due topcoat gave the color an amazing shine, to which the picture unfortunately does not do any justice. Lasting power will have to be discussed in the customary “next week” update but, for the time being, I do not think I would hesitate to recommend this – it’s …

Sunday Manicure (Vol.5)

Products used: Avon Nail Experts Advanced Mira- Cuticle Vanishing Complex & Avon Nail Experts Revitacool Base Coat – No Longer Available Maybelline Forever Strong “Winner Takes it All” £4.09 Erre Due Ceramic Top Coat 6.50€ First Impressions: Had this for a few months and was reminded of it lately – what with the Christmas holidays approaching & the festive mood peaking. I am generally more of a Color Show fan, but this was the only Maybelline range including a golden nail polish at a time when I was looking to dress up as… Cleopatra (!), so I picked it up (& didn’t regret it). The color is easy to apply, dries quickly & has great lasting power (I’ve had it last up to 12 days). Also, the metallic shade is such that minor chips are very difficult to detect. You can easily apply a single coat, but I use two – for the result pictured here. One minus: this tends to form tiny air bubbles, so keep that in mind when applying and take the …
