Interiors > Scandinavian Appartment with Industrial Elements

Today features yet another great loft (to be?), situated in Murmansk, Russia. Designed by native architect Denis Krasikov this airy, high- ceiling-ed gem features bright white walls and “distressed” wooden floors coupled by modern touches, graphic splashes and pure industrial elements – with a stunning, totally eye- catching result. I love the purely functional kitchen, light- flooded living room and modern, beehive inspired bathroom. As for the bedroom? With its four- poster bed, huge all around windows and stunning statement lighting against the principally minimal backdrop – it is simply to die for!

Photo Focus > Benoit Courti

Following a bit of a blogging hiatus, I’m finally back and introducing a new “series”: Photo Focus (which will feature some of my absolute favorite photographers – “classics” and “new entries” both). There will be lots of gorgeous pics – and few words – and, fingers crossed, you’ll all love the end result as much as I do.

So, without further ado, I give you Benoit Courti (a French guy, living in Paris and creating visual awesomeness since 2010, when he gave up music to dedicate himself to professional photography) & a few stunning images from his “Deep Black” set of photos…

‘The Girl who Saved the King of Sweden’ by Jonas Jonasson ~ A Review

image

Having hugely enjoyed Mr. Jonasson’s first book (‘The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared‘), picking this one up was admittedly a bit of a no brainer for me – and, all in all, I can’t really say I was disappointed.

Interweaving fact with fiction, the author takes us on another absurd journey of coincidence, this time from 1970’s South Africa to 21st century Sweden. A large cast of quirky, funny & fully fleshed- out characters (including an “illiterate” mathematical genious of a girl, a useless alcoholic engineer, Chinese counterfeiters, Mossad agents, non- existent Swedes, heads of government and Royalty – to name but a few) populates a plot that is just as far fetched and almost as entertaining as that of its predecessor.

Truth be told the story does lag a bit, around the middle and the book could probably have benefited from stricter editing at that point. That said, the plot soon picks up again leading to a pretty great, happily- ever- after finale (with all loose ends tied up in a, hilarious, little bow).

To put it in a nutshell, despite inadvertently comparing this to Mr. Jonasson’s earlier offering (and finding it slightly less charming, due to the missing element of surprise that one’s first contact with his writing style offers) I still largely enjoyed it. It made me laugh, it made me think and I would ultimately have no real qualms recommending it.

Interiors > Spring Pastels

As many of you know, I am not really a big fan of pastels. I do like them in principle but, in practice, I kinda feel like they don’t really suit my Mediterranean complexion or (more tomboy-ish) sense of style. So I tend to shy away from them – not to mention I have never really thought of them as decorating colors before.

With the weather finally warming up and the sun shinning, however, I recently found myself browsing decorating sites, blogs & Pinterest boards – and realised I loved so many of the pastel hued interiors that I had to reconsider. In fact, I might even go as far as to say I’m now a bit of a convert, hehe…

Since I know many of us get the same sort of sprucing up/ redecorating bug around this time of year, here’s a roundup of some of my favorites to offer some inspiration (in case, like me, you fancy going down the pastel brick road, this Spring):

Coco Crush: Chanel Fine Jewelry @ Net-a-Porter

image

Introducing Coco Crush: A limited edition, Chanel fine jewelry capsule collection available @ Net-a-Porter’s exclusive pop-up store for the next three weeks (from April 14th to May 6th).

The six-piece collection comprises five rings and a cuff in 18-carat white and yellow gold – all featuring Chanel’s signature quilted motif (apparently known as the matelassé).

Should you feel like checking it out (and, who are we kidding – you will, won’t you?) be warned: prices are absolutely astronomical. That said, one can still drool over these from the comfort (& privacy) of one’s own living room – non?
