Need to be FABulous…

Look Fantastic is finally stocking First Aid Beauty products (which I’ve been extra tempted to try for quite a while now) and, of course, I couldn’t help but put together a little wishlist.

Having battled with cystic acne in my mid twenties & being now faced with the left over scarring and over pigmentation (plus the odd, ol’ Vesuvius of a cyst – especially around those days of the month) two of my Top 3 products were bound to be geared towards that. Enter First Aid Beauty’s Skin Rescue Purifying Mask (29.26€): a peel-off detox formula, which promises to reduce old spot pigmentation and Skin Rescue Blemish Patrol Pads (29.26€): tea tree oil/ salicylic acid and Evermat soaked pads meant to improve skin’s texture & reduce sebum production.

Recent concerns over my tired- looking, dark circle- prone eyes (and first fine lines) dictated the third and last product on my wishlist: the brand’s Eye Duty Triple Remedy (34.58€) – an innovative formula that promises to reduce dark circles, brighten the eye area, improve the appearance of under-eye puffiness and smooth out any fine lines.

Now, I’ve heard good things about these from fellow bloggers – so I’ve got relatively high expectations. I will have to wait until my next paycheck, though (which is when I’ll be able to order and finally try them out for myself). In the meantime, I’d be interested to know if any of you have used these (or other) products by FAB and what you thought of them. Splurging on skincare should always be preceded by ample preparation/ research – so do let me know of any success (or horror!) stories below…

Coming Soon: Chanel Rouge Coco (2.0)

Each and every Spring I find myself lusting over all the new collections – and, with so many gorgeous new offerings popping up on my radar, 2015 is shaping up to be no exception. This year, however, I’m also eagerly anticipating the (revamped) release of an existing favorite: Rouge Coco by Chanel. According to what I’ve been reading in the press:

This Spring 2015, Chanel introduces the new Rouge Coco Lipstick. The formula is entirely revamped for even more gentleness, comfort, radiance and melt-away quality. Integrating their new Hydraboost complex, the lipstick leaves lips with a supple, comfortable veil of hydration which deeply nourishes and plumps lips. The formula also allows for build able coverage, with a natural effect with just a single stroke or two strokes or more for even bolder color. The collection features 29 new shades in 6 colour palettes (Nudes, Oranges, Pinks, Rosewoods, Reds and Plums), each named after the friends, loves and muses of Mademoiselle Chanel.

Now, almost all of the 29 shades are ‘oh so wearable’ and -ideally- there would be a full collection coffret available for sale (& we’d all be millionaires, with nothing better to spend our money on than lipstick). Alas, however, there is (we are) not and we will thus have to choose & invest carefully – especially at $32 a pop. Here’s a rundown of the different palettes and shades, to make our task a tad less impossible:

image

The Pinks (L-R): Nº420 Vera| Nº422 Olga| Nº424 Edith| Nº436 Roussy| Nº428 Légende| Nº430 Marie

image

The Plums (L-R): Nº448 Elise| Nº450 Ina| Nº452 Emilienne| Nº454 Jean| Nº456 Erik

image

The Oranges (L-R): Nº410 Catherine| Nº412 Téhéran| Nº414 Sari Doré| Nº416 Coco| Nº418 Misia

image

The Nudes (L-R): Nº400 Louise| Nº402 Adrienne| Nº404 Julia| Nº406 Antoinette| Nº408 Jeanne

image

The Rosewoods (L-R): Nº432 Cécile| Nº434 Mademoiselle| Nº436 Maggy| Nº438 Suzanne

image

The Reds (L-R): Nº440 Arthur| Nº442 Dimitri| Nº444 Gabrielle| Nº446 Etienne

The names in bold represent my favorite shade from each palette. If I could afford the whooping $192 (app. 166€) price tag & provided I was happy with the new formula, I’d probably get them all. The way things are, however, I think I’ll opt for Nº444 Gabrielle (I’m always on the lookout for my skintone’s perfect red) and either a nude (like Nº406 Antoinette) or a slightly darker color (like Nº430 Marie or Nº438 Suzanne). God… Chanel is making it hard to choose with these shades!

How about you guys? Are you looking forward to the new and improved version of Rouge Coco (available March 2, 2015 @ Chanel Counters)? Will you be trying it out and, if so, which shade(s) are you gravitating towards?

Goals (& Goal Progress Diary) for 2015

Been meaning to do this ever since the start of the new year, but it’s only now that I actually got round to sitting down and thinking about/ planning this post. Better late than never though – plus we are still only mid January, right? So… without further ado (& in no particular order), here’s my 5 (+1) goals for 2015:

Goal No. 1

Last year was quite mixed, fitness and health wise. I started the year off with unnaturally high blood cholesterol levels (due to long term use of my birth control pills, as it turns out) and spent the first 5- 6 months eating healthily and exercising (mainly running on the treadmill everyday), trying to get that under control. Having managed to, though, I kinda fell off the wagon – late last summer. My running routine dwindled and I gained quite a bit of weight until the end of the year. So, 2015 has to be all about getting back to my ideal weight and an all- round healthier lifestyle. It also needs to be about resuming my running training (& finally taking it outside!) with a view to improving my 5K PR and, hopefully, preparing to take the next step with a 10K.

Goal No. 2

These last few years I have found myself getting increasingly restless and unhappy with my life/ where I am at the moment. Truth be told I’ve always been a bit of a “glass half empty” kinda girl and that, coupled by the Greek financial crisis which has taken quite a toll and made things extra tough for everyone, me and my family included, has led to a mild (self- diagnosed) depression – culminating in 2014. My second 2015 goal is, thus, to work on all of my negative feelings and psychological issues (alone or with the help of a professional) and end the year on a happier, more content/ fulfilled note!

Goal No. 3

If the (aforementioned) economic crisis has tought me anything, it’s the need to have some money stashed aside for emergencies. At 37 years of age I can honestly say I have been terribly bad at this. Fair enough, my income is not such that would allow for huge savings but that doesn’t mean I should squander whatever little is left every month on mindless or impulsive purchases, leaving nothing for a “rainy day”. The plan for 2015 is to try and save between 50- 100€ monthly (10% of my salary sounds like a bit of a daydream), but I definitely need to educate myself more re: finances and budgeting (& may be adjusting things, as I go along).

Goal No. 4

I absolutely love Lifestyle Counter and all the (online) friends I have made along the way, but find it hard to maintain a consistent posting schedule. As with most things, I tend to go through alternate periods of blogging religiously and falling off the face of the earth blogosphere for months at a time… This is unacceptable, considering almost 200 of you drop in to read my ramblings, so it needs to change starting… now. I am aiming to post at least 3 times per week during 2015 (& have also registered and plan to complete some online blogging classes – with a view to improving LC even further).

Goal No. 5

This has to be the simplest one of my goals. It seems that my everyday life (filled with work and other mundane obligations) tires me out, to the point where I simply cannot be bothered to get off my *@* and get out of the house. To make things worse, even when I do manage to leave my book or tablet down and drag myself out of bed, I tend to stick with the same one or two close friends and our well-known (& well-worn) routines. Which means that, best intentions aside, I go for ages without seeing most of my other friends. In 2015 I’m making a concerted effort to do more things with more people, no matter how much effort that takes – simple as that.

I also have one last, bonus goal – namely to read 25 books (6 more than I did in 2014) in 2015. I have been using Goodreads for years and this challenge is kind of a tradition for me (I’ve been at it since 2010).

So, there you have it. These are my goals for the new year! And, just because I’d hate to see them all fade to the back of my mind & amount to little more than nothing (as in previous years), I’m hereby introducing a monthly “Goal Progress Diary” feature (to be posted at the beginning of each month), in order to keep myself accountable.

How about you guys? Do you share any of my goals for 2015? Anything else you are striving to accomplish? I’d love to hear all about it!

72nd Golden Globes Awards’ Best Dressed

With the Golden Globes now all done and dusted, it’s time to have a brief look at my favorite looks of the evening. There were unfortunately way too many, unexpected fashion disasters mishaps this year (Rosamund Pike, Keira Knightley, Zosia Mamet, Tina Fey, Lena Dunham, Lana Del Rey & Tiziana Rocca being the biggest – if certainly not the only- culprits) but some amazingly elegant outfits as well. So here’s my Golden Globes’ 2015 Top Ten, in preparation for the Oscars…

No. 10

Helen Mirren in Dolce and Gabbana

No matter what she wears, Dame Helen Mirren always looks fantastic – plus, just look at that radiant face? What the heck does she do?

No. 9

Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein

I thought the strapless neckline was not the most flattering for Ms. Witherspoon (and she probably would have been better off being able to walk properly) – but the dress was understated Calvin Klein perfection, so it had to make the list…

No. 8

Kelly Osbourne in Georges Chakra

Kelly Osbourne didn’t seem to make any of the best dressed lists but I personally thought that both her stream lined, figure hugging dress and her Polaroid clutch were absolutely  gorgeous. So… she makes mine.

No. 7

J.Lo in Zuhair Murad

Now this is J. Lo in a (typical J. Lo) Zuhair Murad dress. Once again, she looks stunning. Which is good – since we’ve come to expect nothing less.

No. 6

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Emma Stone looked absolutely gorgeous in her Lanvin jumpsuit. Bonus points are in order here too, for her showing up on the red carpet in something other than your stereotypical gown…

No. 5

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen

Salma Hayek’s outfit did look slightly bridal (and I personally thought her accessories were a bit over the top!) but her Alexander McQueen dress was still one of the nicest of the evening.

No. 4

Jessica Chastain in Atelier Versace

I loved Jessica Chastain’s Atelier Versace (and its color, which gorgeously complemented her hair & eyes) and just couldn’t help but include it here – despite the fact it looked almost identical to Kate Hudson’s Oscars’ 2014 Atelier Versace (from the front, anyway).

No. 3

Diane Kruger in Emilia Wickstead

Diane Kruger sure did it this time – a dazzling, sleek dress coupled by simple but sparkly jewelery & a lovely (multi- colored mother of pearl?) clutch. Perfection!

No. 2

Sophie Hunter in Erdem

Need to admit to having fallen totally IN LOVE with Sophie Hunter’s Erdem dress. It’s just one of those completely unexpected and ultimately “no comment” outfits for me.

No. 1

Kate Hudson in Versace

And finally… the mother of all outfits: Kate Hudson’s long, white, statement Versace gown. Understated jewelry & makeup,  sleek hair, a gorgeous cylindrical clutch and… a body that won’t quit (I mean…come on!). Kate has been consistently amazing me lately and if this is what she wore to the GGs, I cannot wait to see what she’ll bring out for the Oscars in February.

Apart from the above ten leading ladies, honorable mention goes to: Meryl Streep (in Paule Ka), Jenna Dewan- Tatum (in Carolina Herrera), Maggie Gyllenhaal (in Miu Miu), Amy Adams (in Atelier Versace) & Katie Holmes/ Joanne Froggatt (both in Marchesa).

What did you think of the Golden Globes’ fashion this year? Any favorites?
