Headphones at the Ready: November 2017 Vol.II

Contrary to last week (see Headphones at the Ready: November 2017 Vol.I), a number of this week’s new releases actually had me smiling contentedly and tapping my feet to the beat on the train downtown, last Friday night. Here’s a quick heads up – re: a couple of the latest albums I really think you should check out. Paloma Faith – The Architect (Deluxe)   Blue Lips – Tove Lo Now, I’ve been a Paloma Faith fan ever since ‘Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful’ was released, back in 2009 (and my faith – no pun intended – in her has just been renewed by this latest offering) but Tove Lo had somehow managed to fly under my radar – until sometime in early 2017, when I chanced upon ‘Cool Girl’ on Google Play Music and looked her up. I like my pop a little dark sometimes so I appreciated the vibe I got from her – and when I saw this I just knew I had to check it out. Suffices to …

Headphones at the Ready: November 2017 Vol.I

It’s official: This week’s new album releases have failed me, miserably. Corrs’ “Jupiter Calling” had me crying a little inside, with only a couple of the songs mildly reminding me of what I once loved about the band, “Synthesis” by Evanescence was mildly better, but still nothing to write home about and what I heard of Taylor Swift’s “Reputation” was most definitely no “1989”. So… this week’s Headphones at the Ready is going to be all about the singles, instead. There, at least, things proved to be slightly more encouraging… Here is, in no particular order what caught my attention: Tokyo – Dan Croll Weightless – Adam French Lemon to a Knife Fight – The Wombats Good Together – Shy Martin Strangers – Sigrid

New Kid on the Beauty Block…

Above, from left to right: Magnetic Eye Color Pencil in Twilight, Magnetic Eye Color Pencil in Angel, Lip/ Cheek Pencil in Mystic, Lip/ Cheek Pencil in SinA couple of days ago I was introduced to new cosmetics’ label: Nudestix (through a relative EssieButton post). The ‘your skin/eyes/ lips but better’ trend has always been a favorite of mine – so I was quick to visit the brand’s website and check out its current offerings. I wasn’t too excited over the mascara (how many tubes can a girl really own?) or multi- purpose eye pencils (bit too nude for my liking) and I’m not sure I’d be much interested in the concealer, either. That said, I love the ‘Magnetic Eye Color’ pencils, which I’ll promptly be ordering in ‘Twilight’ and ‘Angel’ and the dual- purpose Lip/ Cheek pencils in ‘Mystic’ and ‘Sin’ – for day and night respectively… All of the above products retail at £24.00 each and can be ordered online, via Space.NK.
