Pick Your Five: Oscars’ 2014 Best Dressed

With the 86th Annual Academy Awards all done and the Hollywood glamour & glitter still vivid in my mind, it is clearly time for a Best Dressed Top 5.

I’ll start counting backwards with Cate Blanchett and her stunning Swarovski encrusted Armani Prive – at no. 5:

Next up is Camila Alves and her arrestingly simple (and husband coordinated) Gabriela Cadena gown – at no. 4:

Moving on, it’s time for the ever gorgeous Angelina Jolie and her intricately beaded Elie Saab – at no.3:

Nearing the top, I gravitate towards Sandra Bullock and her classically stunning Alexander McQueen dress – at no.2:
And finally, first place is reserved for the amazing, jaw- droppingly dazzling Kate Hudson in her resplendent, Old Hollywood, Atelier Versace number:
Honorable mention goes to: Sarah Paulson (in Elie Saab), Idina Menzel (in Vera Wang), Amy Adams (in Gucci Premiere), Meryl Streep (in Lanvin), Olivia Wilde (in Valentino)  & Maria Menounos (in Johanna Johnson).

What did you think of the Oscars’ Red Carpet fashion this year? Any favorites?

NYFW Darlings (Vol.8): Reem Acra

‘NYFW Darlings’ Vol.8 features Lebanese-born Reem Acra and her amazing, detailed beadwork and intricate embroidery, gowns and assorted designs. Here’s my 12 favorite pieces, followed (as always after the ‘break’) by the rest of her Fall 2014 RTW collection.

NYFW Darlings (Vol.7): Carmen Marc Valvo

The 7th installement of ‘NYFW Darlings’ (which by now is running ridicilously late, but still…) involves yet another designer I have to admit to not having heard of before: Carmen Marc Valvo. After working at Nina Ricci & Christian Dior, Valvo launched his own label in 1989 and has apparently been evolving into… near perfection ever since. I loved his ‘edgy but feminine’ take on Fall 2014 and will definitely be watching out for him in future. Here’s my 12 favorite pieces followed (as always, after the ‘break’) by the rest of his RTW collection.

Accessorize - Georgia Winged Handheld Bag

Accessorize – Georgia Winged Handheld Bag

I’ve always thought that Accessorize offers chic & fashionable bag options for every season and a recent visit to their store only served to confirm that. Their spring collection is just lovely and amongst all the beautiful & colorful designs I spotted this little gem. The eco- friendly ‘Georgia’ features a contemporary winged design, with carry handles, an optional cross-body strap and two interior compartments and comes in four colors (coral, green, lilac & navy). I’m personally in love with the lilac version and (at £32 = app. 39€) will certainly be picking it up before it sells out (as I’m sure it will, sooner rather than later). For those who prefer online shopping the particular model is available via the Accessorize website (which now ships to over 100 countries).

Chantecaille 'Save the Bees' Eye & Cheek Palette

Chantecaille ‘Save the Bees’ Eye & Cheek Palette

A refillable palette that’s cute as a button, features paraben- free shades for both the eyes and cheeks and donates 5% of proceeds to charity (The Xerces Society to help protect bees & the environment)? I’m sold!

This little treasure packs quite a punch with its 4 shades: Honey, a “glistening golden highlighter for both eyes and cheek”, Nectar, a “flattering warm coral-pink” blush & two eyeshadows in Sky, an “eye-opening sheer blue” & Beehive, a “versatile grey beige”.

Available since January 2014 this can be purchased via the Chantecaille official website (only ships to the U.S.), as well as via SpaceNK & Liberty London.
